Chronic Tonsillitis

Tonsils are made of soft glandular tissue and are part of the immune system.

Tonsillitis is tonsils infection. The most common of all tonsillitis symptoms is a sore throat. In addition, you may similarly have a cough, fever, head ache, feeling sick, feeling weary, painful swallowing , and swollen neck glands. The tonsils may swell and become red. Pus might look as white spots on the tonsils. Symptoms usually get worse over 2-3 days and then gradually go, typically in a week.

Tonsillitis arises when the pharyngeal tonsils, located in the back of the throat turn out to be inflamed. This can be instigated by an infection or allergies. Tonsillitis can cause a severe sore throat and may have to be healed with medication or surgery.

When the tonsils turn out to be inflamed for long time periods, it is assumed to be chronic tonsillitis.

However even though the chronic tonsillitis symptom generally is not serious, nevertheless if careful attention is not taken, you can still find the subsequent symptoms:

  • Throat uneasiness, aridness, itching or minor pain.
  • Bad breath, sense of pain in the tonsillar area.
  • A few gulp secretions and can lead to gastrointestinal irritation; there may be an upset stomach with dietary complaints.
How tonsillitis is diagnosed

Diagnosis is based on a physical examination of your throat. Your doctor may also take a throat culture by gently swabbing the back of your throat. The culture will be sent to a laboratory to identify the cause of your throat infection.
